Gun violence has gotten significantly worse throughout the years. It feels like in today's times, every other news story is about somebody dying from gun violence. People choose to turn to weapons instead of using their voices. Gun violence has gotten so bad that most people are scared to do normal activities in their lives, with fear that a gunman can just freely stroll the streets and take your life. I know I am one of those people. In America, 35,000 Americans die every year from gun violence. It is truly heartbreaking and disgusting that we have to live in a society like this. I am hoping with my poster to bring more awareness to this topic and hopefully change the minds of some people.
For my sketches, I chose two different ones that have different meanings. My first sketch is a road that only leads to a "dead" end, literally it being a coffin at the end of the road. The guns can only move in one direction, hence the one-way sign. The meaning of this poster is that there is only one outcome of gun violence, death. My second sketch is a little bit different in that it is a jewellery box filled with some jewellery and guns. The message of this poster is that guns are not an accessory. Nowadays guns are being used way too frequently like a pair of earrings or a necklace, so I wanted to capture that in my drawing.
